Thor Bjornsson
Born on November 26, 1988, Hafór Jlus Björnsson, sometimes known as Hafthor in English, is a professional strongman from Iceland who is recognized as one of the best strength sportsmen of all time. He holds numerous Strongman championships from various strength federations, including numerous world records. He is the first and only competitor to win the Arnold Strongman Classic, Europe's Strongest Man, and the World's Strongest Man events all in the same calendar year. He is the third most decorated strongman in history with 30 victories in international competitions, behind Poland's Mariusz Pudzianowski and Lithuania's Ydrnas Savickas. Many analysts and strongman experts also refer to Hafór as "the strongest man to have ever lived" due to his overwhelming strength and dominance in every single strongman event.
After receiving a wild card invitation to the 2011 competition, Hafór competed in World's Strongest Man and finished sixth. He competed again the following years, finishing third in 2012, 2013 and 2015, second to ydrnas Savickas by a half-point in 2014, second to Brian Shaw by two points in 2016, then second to Eddie Hall by one point in 2017, before winning the title of World's Strongest Man in 2018 by defeating Mateusz Kieliszkowski by a margin of six and a half points.
Unfortunately, during the group stages of his attempt to defend his title, Hafór tore his plantar fascia. He competed in all of the final events while still dealing with the injury, finishing third overall behind Martins Licis and Mateusz Kieliszkowski and setting a World's Strongest Man record with his eighth straight podium finish (2012-2019). In addition, Hafór has won more medleys & loading races, medley & vehicle pulls, and stone events than any other competitor in the competition's history. Hafór and Mariusz Pudzianowski top the list of previous winners who were able to qualify for the finals at a 100% rate, having made it to 9 finals from 9 visits. Hafór declared in May 2020 that he would not compete in Giants Live or World's Strongest Man again.
